SDJ became a Member of the Royal Photographic Society before the War in 1938, achieved his Associateship in 1939 and his Fellowship in 1940. He was a keen Member of the Pictorial Group, and was its Honorary Secretary between 1944 and 1950 and later its Chairman

RICHMOND AND TWICKENHAM PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

SDJ, along with W G Morris, F L Lee and others resuscitated the Twickenham Photographic Society, in 1938. It amalgamated with Richmond Camera Club in 1946

THE LEICA SOCIETY

The Leica Society is an independent, non-profit organisation, founded and run by dedicated users of, and enthusiasts for, the Leica camera system. SDJ was a leading member of the Leica Postal Portfolio which started in 1936.

THE NATIONAL MEDIA MUSEUM

The Photography Collection is one of the finest and most extensive anywhere in the world. It is best regarded as a collection of collections, encompassing not only that of the Science Museum, but other world-class collections such as The Royal Photographic Society Collection, the Kodak Museum and the Daily Herald Archive. Included in the RPS Collection is the Tyng Collection - SDJ's print "Madrasi Fishermen" (1960) was the first ever colour print to be accepted into this collection.
